Jake Morton and Ellen Schlick ’23 publish article in EXARC Journal
Morton is assistant professor of classics at Carleton. Schlick studied American studies and classics at Carleton.
Jake Morton, assistant professor of classics, published an article with Ellen Schlick ’23 titled, “An Experimental Approach to Baking Ancient Roman Placenta” in EXARC Journal. The article explores recreating complex Roman bread dishes from recipes recorded in Cato the Elder’s book, On Farming, from 165 BC. It also incorporates research done with Morton’s Spring 2023 Carleton course, Experimental Archaeology and Experiential History.
