Hannah Burcaw ’19 featured with husband Shane in Mpls.St.Paul Magazine
Hannah Burcaw studied sociology and anthropology at Carleton.
Hannah Aylward Burcaw ’19 was featured alongside her husband, Shane Burcaw, in a Mpls.St.Paul Magazine piece titled, “In Conversation with Shane and Hannah Burcaw.”
With almost 2 million followers, Shane and Hannah Burcaw rank in the top three of Minnesota’s most popular YouTubers. In fact, their channel, Squirmy and Grubs, where they document their interabled marriage—Shane was born with spinal muscular atrophy; Hannah is a nondisabled former college athlete (she swam at Carleton)—is so successful that two years ago, they packed up their doodle and bought a house in Los Angeles. (On their video about the big move—viewed 230,000 times and counting—Shane joked, “We’re gonna talk a little bit more laid back.”) L.A.’s warmer climate is much easier on the complications caused by Shane’s SMA, but the Burcaws haven’t been able to quit us entirely—each May, they move back to the house they share with Hannah’s parents in Minneapolis.
While they were away this last winter, they released a book, Interabled: True Stories About Love and Disability. It’s Shane’s fourth, and Hannah’s first as co-writer.
