Chinese Music, Global Music and Tang Song Music Ensembles present public performance
The program will include Chinese classical, folk, percussion, minority, and contemporary music.
Carleton’s award-winning Chinese Music Ensemble will perform in concert on Sunday, October 28 from 3 to 4:15 p.m. in the Kracum Performance Hall of the Weitz Center for Creativity. Joined by the Global Music and Tang Song Early Music Ensembles, the program will include Chinese classical, folk, and contemporary compositions performed on traditional bowed strings, plucked strings, winds and percussive instruments.
Under the direction of renowned Pipa artist Gao Hong, the Carleton Chinese Music Ensemble has garnered world-wide acclaim, performing at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Mall of America, the University of Minnesota, and at numerous conferences and Chinese celebrations throughout the region and beyond.

Ensemble director Gao Hong is a world-renowned Chinese pipa player and composer, who graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing where she studied with pipa master Lin Shicheng. She has received numerous commissions and has performed countless U.S. and world premieres of pipa concerti with organizations including the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Heidelberg Philharmonic, Buenos Aires Philharmonic, amongst many others.
