The research of Chérif Keïta, co-director of Africana Studies at Carleton and William H. Laird professor of french and the liberal arts, along with his 2014 documentary film, “Remembering Nokutela,” inspired an all-female South African team—Legacy Creates—to produce a documentary short, “Amagama ka Nokutela,” which scooped the Audience Award at the 2022 Durban International Film Festival.

Keïta’s “Remembering Nokutela” was also screened for hundreds of delegates attending the 55th national policy conference of the African National Congress (ANC) at Nasrec in Johannesburg, South Africa during the first week of August.
