Chérif Keïta celebrated as Mali’s President of Honor for August

Chérif Keïta, William H. Laird Professor of French and the Liberal Arts, was celebrated as Mali’s President of Honor (Parrain) for the August celebrations of the 2025 Year of Malian Culture. The Minister of Culture of Mali, Mamou Daffé, received Keïta and officially handed him the letter of appointment in late July.
Keïta was featured in L’essor Journal in a piece about the screening of his film, Remembering Nokutela, at the National Museum of Bamako. The screening, sponsored by the National Ministry of Culture of Mali and the Embassy of South Africa in Mali, was part of his activities as the President of Honor for August.
