David Tompkins receives two research grants
19 August 2015David Tompkins,
Associate Professor of History, has been awarded two grants to do research in Germany and Poland for his new book project “The Construction and Reception of Friends and Enemies during the Cold War: Images of Israel, China, and Yugoslavia in the Soviet Bloc.” With a 3-month research grant from the DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst Dienst, German Academic Exchange Service) and a 13-month research fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, David will investigate changes in the ways that Soviet bloc countries understood Israel, China, and Yugoslavia during the Cold War, and analyze how those changes challenged communist self-understanding. -
