Carleton team wins spot in annual Collegiate Bridge Bowl
Carleton’s student bridge team, the Carleton College Penguins, has been awarded a free travel package to compete in the 2024 Collegiate Bridge Bowl.

Carleton’s student bridge team, the Carleton College Penguins — composed of Brendan Banfield ’25, Cecilia Ehrlichman ’24, Kyra Helmbold ’24, and Aydn Math ’24 — has been awarded a free travel package to compete in the 2024 Collegiate Bridge Bowl, held during the 2024 Summer North American Bridge Championships in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The Carleton team is one of just 10 teams and 13 pairs to win a travel package, which covers costs for flights, hotel rooms, and other expenses during the tournament.
The Carleton team earned the travel package after participating and placing in sanctioned online college tournaments throughout spring 2024. The team will play against university teams from Canada and the United States during July 25-27 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

The American Contract Bridge League (ACBL), the governing body for duplicate bridge clubs and tournaments in North America, is the host of the Collegiate Bridge Bowl. Each summer, ACBL invites collegiate bridge players across North America to meet, play, and compete for scholarships provided by the ACBL Educational Foundation. Winners of this year’s Collegiate Bridge Bowl will receive scholarship money, which includes $10,000 for the top team and $3,000 for the first-place pair.
“ACBL proudly congratulates Carleton College in earning their spot in this year’s Collegiate Bridge Bowl,” said Bronia Jenkins, ACBL executive director. “Witnessing the skill and dedication of these young players is a testament to the appeal of this game. We’re honored to provide a platform for the next generation of bridge lovers to hone their talents and foster a positive community of fellow players.”
