Carleton Partners with Antioch University to Continue Study Abroad Programs
Carleton to assume administration and oversight of study-abroad programs previously run by Antioch University, to be known as the Carleton-Antioch Global Engagement programs.
Northfield, Minnesota – Carleton College has announced that it will assume administration and oversight of a new portfolio of study-abroad programs previously run by Antioch University, to be known as the Carleton-Antioch Global Engagement programs.
Beginning in the fall 2016, Carleton will be operating the following Antioch Education Abroad (AEA) programs: Buddhist Studies in India, Comparative Women’s and Gender Studies in Europe, Arts and Culture in West Africa, and Community Development in Cameroon.
Carleton will continue Antioch’s nearly 60-year-old tradition of offering immersive, field-based study abroad learning opportunities to students across the country. Carleton faculty-led seminars abroad, which date back to the 1960s, have their own long history of curriculum-integrated, academically rigorous programming that situates disciplinary knowledge in global and cultural contexts.
“This arrangement assures a continuity of educational quality because our experienced AEA program directors will continue to lead these programs at Carleton College,” said Dr. Iris Weisman, vice chancellor for academic affairs at Antioch University.
According to Dr. Iveta Jusova, director of women’s and gender studies in Europe program, “Moving AEA programs into this new affiliation with Carleton is a very exciting development. My colleagues and I have found Carleton College students to be engaged participants in AEA programs in the past, and we look forward to Carleton being the new academic home for our efforts moving forward.”
“We are excited to take over the operation of these programs, and confident that Carleton-Antioch Global Engagement programs will continue to successfully provide students with rich and rewarding opportunities for interdisciplinary exploration and engagement with critical global issues,” added Beverly Nagel, Dean of the College and Winifred and Atherton Bean Professor of Science, Technology, Society and Sociology, at Carleton College.
