Andrés Aragoneses, Visiting Assistant Professor of Physics; Arjendu Pattanayak, Professor of Physics; along with Max Trostel ’19 and Moses Misplon ’17, published an article, “Characterizing Complex Dynamics in the Classical and Semi-Classical Duffing Oscillator Using Ordinal Patterns Analysis,” in the journal Entropy, special issue on Permutation Entropy. In their work, they study the complex dynamics of a particular physical system relevant to understand the transition from the classical to the quantum regime. They use recent statistical tools and they distinguish and classify different chaotic behaviors present in the system, which can not be revealed with more classical tools.
