Carleton College’s annual Craft Fair and Custodial Scholarship Bake Sale will take place on Friday, Dec. 6, 2019, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Weitz Center for Creativity on the Carleton campus. This long-standing event welcomes the entire Northfield community to shop the wares of Carleton staff and community members. A wide variety of hand-crafted items and baked goods will be available for purchase, including jewelry, afghans, baskets, outerwear, candles and much more.

The event was first organized in 1982 by Carleton employee Loretta Springer as a way to showcase and sell homemade items by Carleton staff. Years later, the tradition continues to serve as a fun and festive demonstration of the wide-range of hobbies and crafts the Northfield community has to offer, while also contributing to an important cause.

The Carleton College Custodial Scholarship Fund was established in 1993 by custodian Pat Flynn, and initially involved 25 custodians who committed to donating a portion of their paycheck to fund an endowed scholarship. Today, the scholarship fund continues on with the contributions of custodians as well as other staff and faculty members across campus. The scholarship is awarded each year to a qualified student to help pay for books, music lessons, health insurance premiums or other extra costs.

The Craft Fair and Custodial Scholarship Bake Sale is free and open to the public. All proceeds support the Carleton Custodial Scholarship Fund. For more information, visit https://apps.carleton.edu/events/craft_fair/
