Associate Professor of Chemistry Matt Whited and Professor of Chemistry Daniela Kohen have published a collaborative study in Angewandte Chemie, “Cobalt Silylenes as Platforms for Catalytic Nitrene-Group Transfer by Metal-Ligand Cooperation,” featuring work by student co-authors Wenlai Han ’23, Helen Jin-Lee ’23, Zach DiNardo ’22, Emma Watson ’23 and Jim Zhang ’18.

The paper explores an exciting new approach to catalytic carbon monoxide oxidation (a similar reaction to what is performed by catalytic converters in cars) using inexpensive cobalt and silicon in tandem to allow an incredible increase in efficiency compared with related systems.
