Amalia Moreno-Damgaard, a chef entrepreneur and award-winning author, will deliver Carleton College’s convocation address on Friday, October 1, from 10:50-11:50 a.m. in Skinner Chapel. In her presentation, “Multicultural Insights from a Self-Proclaimed Triple Minority,” she highlights a series of learning curves, challenges, and successes that have inspired her transition to entrepreneurship.

Moreno-Damgaard is the founder of Amalia Latin Gourmet, a nationally-certified woman-owned business enterprise which helps organizations develop a broader understanding and appreciation for Latin cultural nuances. A native Guatemala now living in Minnesota, she has faced challenges stemming from her gender, ethnicity, and cultural misunderstanding both socially and professionally. These experiences inform her leadership of Amalia, in which she uses traditional, healthy cuisine as a platform for keynote speaking, representing brands, consulting, and teaching.

Moreno-Damgaard is the co-founder of Women Entrepreneurs of Minnesota—a group that fosters women entrepreneurship through leadership education and mentoring. In sharing her career journey, she weaves four pillars of personal success: know yourself, empower yourself, connect yourself, and involve yourself.

Moreno-Damgaard received a BA in Business Administration from Fontbonne University, a Masters in International Business from Saint Louis University, and graduated with honors from the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu North America.
