Hmong leader Sia Her to deliver Carleton convocation

In her presentation, Her will discuss her work as an advocate for refugee communities in Minnesota.

Sia Her, a local Hmong leader and activist, will deliver Carleton College’s weekly convocation address on Friday, May 7, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. over Zoom. In her presentation, she will discuss her work as an advocate for refugee communities in Minnesota.

Her is a cultural bridge builder with a passion for establishing relationships and trust in communities. As executive director of the Minnesota State Council on Asian Pacific Minnesotans, she advises the governor and legislature, and advocates on behalf of Asian Pacific American communities. She manages all operations and projects, and develops and implements strategic and well-informed plans to ensure that the Council delivers on its statutory duties.  

Before joining the Council, Her served as education and training department manager at the Hmong American Partnership and as campaign manager for the successful Saint Paul Public Schools’ “Strong Schools, Strong Communities” levy referendum.

Her earned a bachelor’s degree from Macalester College and a master’s in public policy from the Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota.
