Carleton Hosts Annual Poetry Without Borders Event
The public is invited to listen to the reading of poems in a world language other than English.
Carleton College will host its annual Poetry Without Borders event on Wednesday, May 16 from 8 to 9 p.m. in the Gould Library Athenaeum. Audience members are invited to listen to the reading of poems in world languages from around the globe. English translations of the poems will be projected on a screen, accompanying the readings.
Poetry Without Borders is an annual event during National Poetry Month that was first introduced at Carleton by assistant professor of German Juliane Schicker, who encountered the event as a graduate student at Penn State University. “Even if you don’t understand the poem, you can feel the meaning behind it while listening,” adds visiting professor of German Josiah Simon.
This event is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Carleton College Departments of German and Russian and the Humanities Center.
