Community Panel to Address Northfield’s Achievement Gap

Members of the Northfield community will come together to discuss the educational achievement gap in local schools in a “Who is Northfield?” panel discussion taking place on Thursday, Feb. 2 at 12 p.m. in Carleton College’s Severance Great Hall. This event, which includes a complimentary buffet lunch, is free and open to the public.

Panelists will address the different ways in which the educational achievement gap is being addressed in our community, and speakers will include Beth Berry of Northfield TORCH (Tackling Obstacles and Raising College Hopes), Marnie Thompson and Roger Jenni of Northfield Public Schools, and a representative from Accelerate Northfield.

This event is sponsored by Carleton College’s newly formed Center for Community and Civic Engagement (CCCE), designed to combine the efforts of the College’s Academic Civic Engagement (ACE) and Acting in the Community Together (ACT) offices, while adding a third area of public scholarship to bring increased visibility to collaborations between faculty and students, and to support the work of engaged scholarship by Carleton’s faculty.

This event is a part of Carleton’s annual Civic Engagement Series. Previous panels have dealt with local community issues such as housing availability and inequality.
