Convocation aims to bridge the gap between science and policy

Popular biologist and adventurer Dr. Niall McCann will present “Notes from the Conservation Front Line” on Friday, Jan. 5 from 10:50 to 11:50 a.m. in the Skinner Memorial Chapel at Carleton College.

Since the age of 18, Niall McCann has been on challenging expeditions all over the world. In a lifetime of adventures, he has rowed the Atlantic Ocean, skied across Greenland, cycled over the Himalayas, and canoed the Yukon River.

A passionate conservationist, McCann works to bridge the gap between science and policy. He is a specialist in endangered species research and has led biological research in remote areas around the globe. This work takes him to challenging and often dangerous locations. He has also worked in protected area law enforcement in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

McCann is the Director of Conservation at National Park Rescue in sub-Saharan Africa. The organization focuses on anti-poaching operations, working to prevent the killing of elephants, rhinos, and lions.

A popular television personality, McCann hosted two seasons of the Nat Geo WILD series, “Biggest and Baddest.” The award-winning series focuses on human-wildlife conflict. He is also featured in the PBS documentary, “Lost in the Amazon.”
