Carleton’s Perlman Teaching Museum Featured in ‘MN Original’
Carleton College’s Perlman Teaching Museum, located in the Weitz Center for Creativity, is featured in a MN Original episode entitled “Museums Creating Community.” Produced with the Minnesota Association of Museums, the episode looks at the role and value of museums as they reflect their communities, preserve traditions and inspire generations. Minnesota has over 600 museums, representing a diverse array of perspectives and artistic genres, as well as numerous chapters in the state’s history.

Laurel Bradley, director and curator of the Perlman Teaching Museum, explains “We call it a ‘teaching museum’ to really underline the fact that this is not a temple for the arts — for the ‘elite.’ The Perlman Teaching Museum addresses multiple audiences including students and faculty, the larger Carleton community of parents and graduates…. It is very much also meant to welcome the community of Northfield, [and] of Minnesota generally….”
Originally broadcast in June as part of Minnesota Museums Month, the episode is being repeated on TPT (Twin Cities Public Television) on Saturday, August 18th; Saturday, September 1st; and Sunday, September 9th. A link to the episode can also be found here.
