Carleton’s liberal arts curriculum is designed to encourage you to take risks, to explore new subjects, to discover new passions, and to pursue unexpected journeys.  This also means it’s dynamic: new courses are always coming and going, and you will need to search for classes each term when you get ready to register.

Click here for an overview of how to explore our curriculum, including the Academic Catalog, Liberal Arts requirements, and classes offered in the current term. Check out the below video to learn more.

Ways to Explore the Curriculum

Explore the Academic Catalog

The Academic Catalog contains a listing of all courses offered by each department over the past few years. It is also a great resource for searching through the liberal arts requirements and finding policies on things like transfer credits or AP exam credits.

We also encourage you to view our guide on searching within the academic catalog.

Discover our Majors and Academic Departments

Carleton’s Academic Departments and programs administer their major and minor programs.

While you won’t declare a major or minor until towards the end of your sophomore year, many departments offer advice for first-year students (usually on the right-hand side of their website).

We encourage you to connect and discover the departments and programs Carleton offers. There are many great opportunities and connections to be made!

Search in Workday

Workday is Carleton’s system of record. Not only is it the place for you to look up your academic history, grades, and student information, it is also where you’ll search for courses to register. While the Academic Catalog contains all active courses on record, Workday’s course section search will show you courses for a specific term.

Visit your Registration Planning dashboard to find numerous reports that will help you search by Liberal Arts requirement, find open courses, search recommended courses, and view newly-added courses.
