Auditions for Carleton ensembles take place during New Student Week for first-year students. The Jazz Ensemble audition schedule found here.
Auditions includes three components: a prepared piece of your choice, improvisation over a 12-bar blues, and the prepared sight reading of “Dexterized”:
- C instruments Treble Clef (aka Flute, Guitar, Violin)
- C instruments Bass Clef (aka Trombone and Bass)
- Bb Trumpet
- Bb Tenor
- Eb Alto and Bari
- Piano part
Drum set players: Please prepare a sample of the following grooves: medium swing, up swing, bossa nova, samba, and funk
