Over the past two years, assistant professor of music Andrea Mazzariello has facilitated artistic collaborations between Carleton students and young people from the greater Northfield community.

Renowned musician and composer Caroline Shaw visits Carleton on Friday, April 12. A vocalist, violinist, composer, producer, and recipient of both a Pulitzer Prize and a Grammy Award, Shaw will perform solo and also be joined by Carleton music faculty performing compositions from her repertoire for string quartets.

Justin London, Carleton’s Andrew W. Mellon Professor of Music, Cognitive Science and the Humanities, will discuss the complex nature of musical tempo perception along with topics in interdisciplinary research.

Carrie Newcomer is a singer, songwriter, poet, and activist whose growing edge is learning how to live in “the beautiful not yet” with passion and purpose.  She is joined by the Carleton Choir for a concert at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 26 in Kracum Performance Hall.

The program will include a mix of Chinese classical, folk, percussion, minority and contemporary music.

The concert will feature award-winning pianist and conductor Christian Zacharias and works by Mozart, Bruckner, Widmann and Beethoven.

The performance is an exploration of Christian, Jewish, and Arabic musical traditions in late medieval Spain.

Part of an extensive world tour, the performance is designed to take audiences “to a world of peace and bliss.”

In addition to his solo career, Koza fronts the popular indie folk-rock band Rogue Valley.

American guitarist Jonathan Kreisberg is considered one of the most compelling composers & performers in contemporary jazz.
