Justin London, the Andrew W. Mellon professor of music, cognitive science and the humanities at Carleton, has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society for Music Perception and Cognition.

St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter honored the Carleton music faculty member’s outstanding career by officially naming April 3, 2022, “Gao Hong Day.”

Over the past two years, assistant professor of music Andrea Mazzariello has facilitated artistic collaborations between Carleton students and young people from the greater Northfield community.

Justin London, Carleton’s Andrew W. Mellon Professor of Music, Cognitive Science and the Humanities, will discuss the complex nature of musical tempo perception along with topics in interdisciplinary research.

The program will include a mix of Chinese classical, folk, percussion, minority and contemporary music.

The Ensemble will perform in the Kracum Music Hall on Oct. 29 at 3 p.m.

The acclaimed Laura Cavaiani Trio will perform, along with renowned jazz vocalist Karrin Allyson.

Susan Shirk helms the Music Resource Center. But perhaps more importantly, she decides which Carleton music professor’s face will adorn a custom guitar pick.

The concert program includes ancient, traditional, and modern Chinese music, Syrian music, and Irish music.
