 Dr. Rainer Polak is the Spring 2023 Benedict Distinguished Visiting Professor in Ethnomusicology.  Dr. Polak is a music and dance researcher specializing in djembe drumming and dance from Mali. At the RITMO Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Rhythm, Time and Motion (University of Oslo, Norway) he currently leads the project “DjembeDance: Multimodal rhythm in music and dance from West Africa.”  Spring term he will be teaching “The Rhythms of West Africa” (MUSC 191) and will lead Carleton’s African Drum Ensemble.
