Holly Young Artist Talk & Artwork Acquisition Workshop
Want to learn more about this process and take part in choosing a work of art to be enjoyed by Carleton students for years to come?
Join Assistant Professor of American Studies and History, Meredith McCoy and Perlman Teaching Museum Director, Sara Cluggish for a special event on Tuesday October 26th, noon - 1pm.
This session will focus on the artwork of contemporary indigenous artist Holly Young (Thizáptaŋna / Wičhíyena Dakota), which is currently featured in Why Treaties Matter an exhibition on view in the Hamlin Creative Space now through Sunday, October 17th. During this hour-long event, Carleton students will have the opportunity to view Young's ledger artwork in person and learn directly from the artist about her practice before choosing one of three artworks to officially enter the Carleton Art Collection.

About the Artist: Holly Young was born and raised on the Standing Rock Reservation in North Dakota, home to both Dakota and Lakota communities. Her diverse range of art includes beadwork, ledger art, and quillwork in Northern Plains style. Young has a passion for traditional Dakota floral styles and designs and has been committed to preserving and sharing these art forms and lifeways. She honors her ancestors through revitalizing these artistic traditions and sharing their accompanying stories. Through art, she affirms herself as a Dakota woman and mother by practicing Winyan Omniciye, the circle of sharing knowledge – what you learn, you give back.
