Journey across Europe and through centuries of art

European art transports viewers back in time to glimpse the creative progression of cultures, and the impact of talented individuals on the history of art.

The Carleton Art Collection features European art from the 14th to the 20th centuries, with works spanning artistic media from oil paintings to bronze sculptures, from prints to illuminated manuscripts. Not limited to a single region, the collection extends through France, Austria, Germany, Spain, Belgium, and the United Kingdom.

For those with an eye to history, devotional artifacts provide insight into the role of religion in shaping art and culture. Manuscript pages from a 14th century French Book of Hours, a small devotional painting, sculptures and other religious objects create tangible links with the past.
