LTC Winter Conference - Introduction to Inclusive Course Design

Mon, December 9, 2024 • 1:00pm - 2:30pm (1h 30m) • Weitz 236

Facilitators: Elijah Genheimer, Accessibility Specialist, Beatriz Pariente-Beltrán, Senior Lecturer in Spanish, and  Don Vosburg, Academic Technologist for Learning Innovation

Stipend: $50 for eligible participants

If you are interested in creating more inclusive courses but unsure how to get started this session will help provide a foundation for future exploration grounded in theoretical frameworks and informed by the context of Carleton. In this session participants will reflect on their personal interest in this topic. They will then learn about various models of inclusive course design: Trauma Informed Pedagogy (TIP); Universal Design for Learning (UDL); & Community, Agency, Representation, Equal Access (CARE). Finally, we will explore together how to apply these frameworks to our community of learners at Carleton by examining assumptions, identifying counter narratives, and expanding our understanding of the students in our classes. If you are interested in taking this knowledge and beginning to apply it in your work consider attending our second session “Exploring Inclusive Practices in Your Courses.”
