50 years of Southeast Asian Resettlement

1975 marked the end of the Vietnam War and the fall of the South Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Lao governments to communism. The following decades’ refugee crisis saw hundreds of thousands of displaced Viet, Khmer, Lao, and Hmong drift across the Pacific to resettle in the United States.

50 years later, we wish to commemorate the strong Southeast Asian American (SEAA) diasporas that have grown in the most unlikely circumstances — from Southern California to Minnesota’s Twin Cities.

Through this programming series, we hope to share the stories of these communities with the Carleton campus, as they redefine their identities away from war-tainted narratives.
