Joel Weisberg retired in 2019 from the Stark Professorship of Physics and Astronomy and the Natural Sciences at Carleton College. He taught courses in physics and astronomy, and science and public policy.  He has supervised the astrophysical research of many students students. Joel works to use his scientific expertise to critically assess new technologies, especially those related to energy, weapons, and war; and to publicly disseminate this information.

He has also fought for gender justice throughout his career, helping to smooth the way for women and LGBTQA students, staff, and faculty while he served as a professor at Princeton University and at Carleton College.

In conjunction with the “Celebration of Excellence in Science” symposium which took place on campus on October 27, 2018, the department held a celebration to honor Joel’s time here and to bid him a very fond farewell. The many people who spoke about Joel were recorded, and you can watch the videos on the website.
