Professor of Physics, Physics
Arjendu K Pattanayak, Professor of Physics at Carleton College, grew up in India and was educated there as well as in the United States. He has visited and worked at Universities all over the world on his research and teaching, including Canada, Germany, Italy, India, and Singapore.
He continues to be fascinated by fundamental questions in dynamics, chaos, and the behavior of entropy in classical and quantum nonlinear systems since first encountering these ideas. He enjoys collaborative research projects with students and collaborators worldwide. He teaches across the board on mechanics, environmental physics, quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, and electricity and magnetism.
He also studies complex systems and has developed sustainable energy systems courses integrating experiential learning including work with students on sustainable energy solutions in Southern India.
He previously served as Associate Dean of the College at Carleton. He has helped with the creation of premier Universities in India and is a board member of professional organizations. More information is on LinkedIn and Google Scholar as well as on Arjendu’s personal website.
