Title: Linking human activity patterns to health using smartphone sensor data

Abstract: Modern technology has given us tools to accurately quantify physical health using genetic sequencing, imaging, and bio-assays. However, methods for quantifying human activity and behavior patterns mostly rely on much blunter data collection instruments. In this talk, I will present a more modern way of capturing human activity and behavior data by collecting and processing smartphone sensor data. I will then describe several ongoing research projects which aim to develop statistical and computational methods that integrate activity patterns with data from other sources (e.g., accelerometers, self-reported stress levels) to yield insights into health and well-being.
