Each January, we invite representatives from BSM and BSME to visit Carleton and answer questions about their programs. We also ask recently-returning students to recount their experiences. Information meeting will be on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 4-5 pm in CMC 206.
Because Carleton sends many students to study at BSM, BSM-Summer, and BSME-Summer, Carleton has a special dispensation to not write individual letters of recommendation for students who are interested in applying. Therefore, any student interested in applying to any of these programs needs to apply to our department first. The application to our department is due January 31, well before the deadline for any of the programs. This allows students who want to take advantage of rolling admissions to be able to apply early. After that time, our department discusses each applicant and writes the director of BSM or BSME with details about each applicant. Then the applicant makes the usual application to BSM or BSME with an official transcript, but does not need to request any letters of recommendation. The BSM application is due April 1. The BSM-Summer application is due March 1. The BSME-Summer application is due March 15. Since applications are read on a rolling basis, we recommend that you apply early.
To participate in any non-Carleton OCS program, including BSM, you must complete an application form for approval from the OCS office to participate. You do not need OCS approval to participate in either summer program.
