Math/Stats Skills Center Tutors

We accept applications at the start of each term, but we attempt to fully staff the center through our spring hiring process. Tutor positions are filled for Fall 2025, but you can apply for a position in future terms.

Minimum Qualifications for MSSC Tutors:

You must have at least a 3.0 GPA in MATH- or STAT-related coursework OR a B in Linear Algebra or any advanced course beyond Linear Algebra.

Job Description:

Math/Stats Skills Center tutors assist peers in a variety of MATH & STAT courses to increase their understanding of concepts, complete their homework, and prepare for quizzes and exams. Tutors must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, greeting students, moving around the MSSC, and asking students how they are doing and if they need any help.

Tutors must have sufficient mathematical or statistical backgrounds, particularly in introductory and intermediate courses, to support students with questions in 100- or 200-level courses. Tutors often work with students individually, but they may also support small groups. Additionally, tutors are expected to circulate throughout the MSSC to ensure all students receive attention and support with their questions. The MSSC caters to students enrolled in any MATH or STAT course. Tutors are expected to navigate an environment serving a variety of students with a variety of needs.

New tutors must be:

  • In good academic standing
  • Able to work at least three hours/week
  • Willing and able to attend and participate actively in all mandatory (and paid) training and professional-development activities
