"Chasing a Unicorn: Elusive Cu(II/III) Complexes in Directed C-H Functionalization"
Converting C-H bonds to value-added functional groups is a highly desirable reaction for industrial and academic chemists alike. One way to functionalize these relatively inert bonds is through the use of metal catalysts such as Cu salts; however, little is known about the mechanisms through which Cu performs these reactions or what types of organometallic intermediates exist in these systems. This talk will center on synthesizing and characterizing Cu(II) and Cu(III) intermediates with a key C-Cu bond and what we can do with those intermediates to better understand the mechanisms of Cu mediated reactions.
