Seminar: Everything, Everywhere, All at Once: Birds of prey as models for community assembly
Shanta Hejmadi is a Post-Doctoral Associate in Evolutionary Ecology at Macalester College. She will be speaking on her work with the complexities of raptors' evolutionary community patterns of assembly.
Species’ evolutionary histories shape their present-day communities. However, far from the simple indices of assembly mechanisms proposed by early models, myriad ecological and historical effects may shape community patterns over broad spatial and temporal scales. Dr Hejmadi investigates community assembly in diurnal raptors using a diverse array of data and analyses that explore both immediate ecological influences (such as habitat) as well as evolutionary legacy effects (such as historical dispersal, diversification, and paleogeographic history) that vary over both geography and time.
