I first met Mary when I was still a senior in high school, when I participated in a program called Environmental Science at Carleton. The program was based out of the Geology Department, and Mary was one of the faculty leads. She was instrumental in helping me learn more about geology as a major, and ultimately helped me decide to attend Carleton. While at Carleton, I took a Geomorphology class with Mary, but my favorite class was a special course called High Latitude Periglacial Geomorphology in Alaska, where we got to basically plan a road trip around central Alaska looking at cool geologic features. Then, at the end of the year, we actually did the trip! I have many fond memories of Mary, and I wish her the very best in her retirement.
