I have so many wonderful memories of collaborations with Mary. She was one of the first people outside Facilities staff who realized what a big deal the geothermal project would be. She immediately starting incorporating it into her classes, having students explore the idea in creative ways. Mary was also the driving force behind the Carleton Aquifer Research Lab (CARL) – a visionary project to install fiber optic monitoring cables in five of the Bald Spot geothermal borings. This project is yielding data on how groundwater flow and geology influence the bore field performance (and vice versa.) I learned so much from Mary through these collaborations and will be forever grateful for her knowledge, insight, friendship and wonderful sense of humor.
