Mary! I don’t even know where to begin to express my gratitude for all you’ve done for me. Some of my favorite memories from Carleton are from geo labs in your classes: afternoons wading in the Cannon to measure its depth profile, hiking around the McKnight prairie learning how to measure slope, and digging soil profiles across the Arb. One of my favorite memories is singing soil-related songs on the last day of Soils class and enlisting my help to teach the melody to my more musically-challenged classmates! You instilled in me an appreciation for the earth’s ancient past, both human-related and non, and have been so supportive in my fledgling early career. You epitomize the Carleton ethos, devoted to a humanistic exploration of the natural world in true liberal arts fashion. All the best in your retirement!
