Mai Laoshi was incredible. I looked up to him tremendously during my time taking Chinese. His guidance greatly assisted me in studying abroad in China as well. From advising me (correctly) that Chinese pijiu was…less than great to his pointers on Yunnan to a fantastic debrief on my return, I was very grateful for him. I’ll always remember him most, however, for never quite knowing what to expect in the classroom, enjoying class tremendously and (usually) with laughter, and always leaving eager and ready to learn more. He has been a teacher in every sense of the word and he will be missed.
