加賀先生、ご退職おめでとうございます!
In a variety of ways you were part of many of my “firsts” while at Carleton. Yours was the first class I ever visited as a prospie, and I remember you teaching the students kanji with your mnemonic drawings. Then, a few months later, you were my very first class at Carleton: Japanese 101, 1A.
After that first term with you there were no doubts left in my mind, I wanted to continue taking Japanese for the rest of the language sequence. Your expectations were high, but I think that no Japanese student can say that they were sorry about that. Only thanks to your foundational classes did we have the skills to advance to the upper levels and undertake study abroad programs.
I hope to take what I’ve learned from you, both as a teacher and as a person, with me to the JET Program this upcoming year.
いろいろとありがとうございました!
