Managing Disruptive Behavior

All it takes is a single student with disruptive behavior to have a negative impact on the classroom learning environment for others. What are some approaches you can take in setting up course guidelines and expectations to try to prevent disruptions? How do you respond when challenges occur? We’ll consider situations ranging from students who are unaware of how their excessive question-asking impacts others in the class to students who challenge faculty expertise in problematic ways. We’ll explore strategies to use in different situations, and consider the pros and cons of various approaches.
