“Although I’m now in clinical psychology, my linguistics training has been incredibly valuable. The warmth and mentorship I received from the Carleton Linguistics Department really helped me feel prepared for pursuing a Ph.D. and an academic career. I also think that having a background in a different field has helped me look at the field of psychology more thoughtfully–even though both are in the social sciences, they have unique aims and processes and I think it’s helpful to have an awareness of that.
