Current Employment: Speech Language Pathologist (Pediatric) at Baystate Healthcare (Springfield, MA)
“Speech pathology is a great field that uses every part of your linguistics background and then some! There are a wide variety of opportunities to fit lots of different personalities and goals. I love the fun of working with kids, but you can also work with adults or in a very medically-oriented position. Throughout my day as an outpatient speech pathologist I may treat a baby for a feeding/swallowing disorder; a toddler with autism; an older child for articulation; a middle-schooler for social skills, stuttering, or voice; and I may cross departments to treat an older adult with a TBI for cognitive impairment. I consider myself an introvert, so working one-on-one with kids and families is a great way to make a personal connection and feel like I’m making a difference for my patients. If you’d like to know more about speech pathology, feel free to email me! Good things to ask about: prerequisites, what to consider when choosing a graduate program, externships, specializing, work settings, what population do you want to work with? etc.”
