The linguistics major taught me many things that I still take with me to this day. Apart from a continued fascination with and love for the human capacity for language, the linguistics major gave me the ability to apply critical thinking skills, to understand complex academic research, to communicate my ideas effectively, and, most importantly, to truly value the diversity of the human experience. While I never pursued a higher degree or a career in linguistics, I’ve found that the linguistics major has been an asset to me both in graduate school and my career for these reasons.
