“I have been doing research in Computational Linguistics/NLP, where, especially at the moment, solid grounding in Linguistic theory is very important – it is one thing to build models and applications, but those are a lot more powerful when they have that linguistic foundation. But also conceptually, I’ve found that the skills I which are emphasized in the Linguistics major at Carleton — critically engaging with scientific literature, writing, formulating a question and deciding on a method that is best fit for approaching it — have all served me very well in graduate school research.”
