John-Mark Schlink is an artist and educator whose practice is focused in printmaking and
drawing. In particular, his work centers on the intersection of memory, architecture and landscape. He earned an MFA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a BA from Hamline University, and now serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Digital + Studio Art Department at Hamline University, where he is also Director of Exhibitions and the Hamline University Permanent Art Collection.

This exhibition features a series of fourteen intaglio prints and a letterpress colophon created for a folio collection titled Monuments. The work explores the physicality and metaphorical implications of the impenetrable and formidable nature of concrete through a tactile material language. His compositions reflect fractured and reconfigured facades of imposing mid-century buildings. In particular, Schlink references Modern Brutalist architecture as his primary subject matter, emphasizing the conspicuous structural patterns and the textures of time-worn surfaces. The exhibition is dedicated to his father, Terrance J. Schlink, an architect who worked on numerous projects on Carleton’s campus, including the renovation of Gould Library in 1985.
