彼岸 – In Another Shore: Work by Shun Yong

3 April 2025

Shun Yong employs photography, paper-making, and other media to explore a fear of loss, generational trauma, and curiosity about his identity as a second-generation Chinese immigrant in Malaysia and recent immigrant to the United States. He taught “The Book as Art Object” at Carleton during Fall ’24 and “Photography as Community” in Winter ’25. In addition to his own work, a selection of his students’ artist’s books and photographs will also be on view.

This exhibit highlights work from two of Yong’s recent projects. In Another Shore includes selected photographs from the artist’s residency in Ino town, Kochi Prefecture, Japan. His other project, C-H-F, consists of a series of photographs celebrating BiPOC rock climbers.

Yong holds an MFA in Visual Studies from Minneapolis College of Art and Design and a BS in Physics from St. Cloud State University. His work has been shown at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts, Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Art at 801 Gallery, and Soo Visual Arts Center. His work with the Carry On Homes collective has been exhibited at the Minneapolis Institute of Art and Walker Art Center, among other venues.

Please join us in the library for an artist talk at noon on Thursday, May 1st, 2025.
