This selection of books, all drawn from Gould Library’s Special Collections, spans almost 150 years and features sewing model samples, instruction manuals, a Froebel album, and artist’s books. It casts a spotlight on needlecraft, the products and reflections of domestic labor, and other practical and creative endeavors traditionally undertaken by women. Often overlooked and under-appreciated, these items are now treasured holdings, providing opportunities to study and reflect upon the kind of work many women engaged in both inside and outside the home.
