Early Childhood Reading Skills: Presentations by Data Visualization as Activism students

Wed, January 4, 2023 - Tue, August 15, 2023 • Rookery

This exhibition features the work of first-year students in Dr. Lin Winton's Argument & Inquiry seminar "Data Visualization as Activism." This course ran during fall term 2022, in collaboration with Northfield Public Schools and Dr. Andy Poppick's Stats 285 course. Students explored data on early childhood reading skills, looking at family history of reading difficulty, standardized test scores in K-1, and student demographics to reveal patterns and relationships relevant to the development of reading skills in early childhood. They then turned their findings into visual stories, making the data and their analyses accessible to all community members.

This work was supported by the Center for Community & Civic Engagement.
