Early African Americans of Southeast Minnesota
On view in the library lobby through the month of February, this exhibition tells the stories of some of the first African Americans known to have lived in Southeast Minnesota. It was researched and produced by Mica Anders, a genealogist, oral historian and visual artist, during her History Fellowship at the Minnesota African American Heritage Museum and Gallery (MAAHMG). Stop by and learn about early Black settlers in the region — their personal histories, careers, everyday lives, contributions to the region, experiences within their communities, and more.
According to Anders, "This exhibition is an opportunity to rewrite early African Americans into the history of Southeast Minnesota. It serves as a starting point to bring their stories and their contributions to the region to light".
