In a recent visit to Special Collections, Joel Weisberg, Herman and Gertrude Mosier Stark Professor of Physics and Astronomy and the Natural Sciences, Emeritus, “discovered” a supernova in a 17th century star atlas. This discovery inspired him to work with Special Collections Librarian Rebecca Bramlett to mine the astronomy materials in Special Collections for other scientifically-important nuggets. Join us at 4pm CST for this virtual event as Prof. Weisberg presents their finds, which include star maps, engravings of sunspots, and 16th century computers with moving parts.
A Special Collections Pop-Up Event will be held in the Gould Library Athenaeum on Tuesday, April 19th during common time that will allow for an interactive opportunity to see and handle the rare astronomy books discussed during this Virtual Lecture
