Through its many publications and aggressive distribution efforts, the Department of Agriculture battled the isolation of the individual farmer. Every farm, large or small, could benefit from the research and information disseminated by the Department. One of the most important roles of the Department was to aid in the eradication of insect infestations and infectious diseases on the farm. Central to treating and preventing the spread of disease and insect pests was the correct identification of the threats. Detailed, accurate illustrations were essential tool in this battle.
